Description of the painting Jackson Pollock “The Wolf”

Wolf painting was created after a very difficult period in the life of Jackson Pollock. The artist suffered from alcohol addiction and was forced to undergo treatment in a psychiatric hospital. After that, Pollock begins to paint in a very difficult style of surrealism and abstractionism, which we see when looking at his work Wolf. The artist drew the idea for his creation from Native American mythology, which completely fascinated him and plunged him into the world of mysticism and mysterious signs.
The first presentation of the picture was at the Jackson Pollock exhibition in 1943.

A significant number of people considered in the film “The Wolf” a plot from the legend of the two brothers who founded Rome, Romulus and Remus, who were fed by the she-wolf. The author declined to comment on this assumption, relying on the fact that he simply had to create this work. The absence of any reasonable explanation of the main meaning of the picture from the side of its creator, further enveloped the Wolf with mysterious mysticism.

The she-wolf is a kind of female spiritual power, sung in ancient mythology. Jackson Pollock, using rough strokes of contrasting black and white paint, conveys this power to the viewer in the gaze of a she-wolf, who is closely watching us from the canvas. You can notice the many ancient characters present, highlighted by bright shades of paint that are scattered throughout the picture and inspire special feelings of primitiveness.

Looking at the picture of the Wolf, it is impossible not to think about the natural force surrounding us. The artist created a truly mystical and mysterious creation, without revealing the main secret of what he was trying to convey with this picture. However, this inexplicability made the Wolf one of the author’s most popular masterpieces, which I want to return to again and again.
